"Exhausted: Reflections of the Road"

I found these two truck exhaust pipes at one of my many haunts, a junkyard in Kings Mountain, NC.

Although it was very difficult to draw my designs on the chrome and because the metal was so thin,

the cutting was exhausting!  I think these would be perfect for the trucker who has everything, don't you?

Grovewood Gallery has Done It Again ! ! !

The team at Grovewood Gallery continues to amaze me.  I want to thank Cheri and LouAnne for the spectacular Holiday display which showcases my new Floating Sculpture series.  I like the way they incorporated my Standing Flight along with a little ceramic village.

KNOXVILLE: G&G Interiors is all about Beauty and Southern Hospitality

Joyce and I were so proud to see how beautifully the 

G&G team, headed by Merri Lee Fox, had displayed my sculpture.  Their interior design store was a masterpiece, one of the nicest we've ever visited. 

We were very happy to hear this sculpture "A Toy for Sisyphus" created from a metal buoy,  was sold within a day of arriving in Knoxville.

Design Your Own Wall Sculpture

Once again, after 4 years of procrastination an untold excuses, I have finally taken my dear Joyce's suggestion and made some small wall sculptures.  The new series is called "Floating Sculptures" because they are approximately 1" off the wall.

Now anyone can try their hand at designing a piece of sculpture for their enjoyment.  Hopefully they will be back from the powder coater and in the galleries just in time for the Holidays.

Flight Returns Home

My singer, songwriter friend Aaron Burdett snapped this picture of Standing Flight in my studio in Rutherfordton, NC.   The sculpture had just returned home after being in the Mountain Sculptors' show at the Upstairs Gallery in Tryon, NC.

I used a 57" saw blade which I found many years ago in Brevard, NC. to create this sculpture.

I'm on Cloud Nine !!

       The sky will not be falling with "Nimbus 9" so beautifully placed at the Grovewood Gallery's 5th Annual Sculpture in the Garden show.  The opening reception is from 11-3 on June 2nd; the will run through December, 2012.

Gotta Have A Ginko!

Once again, after procrastinating for an entire year, I finally completed the copper ginko leaf which my dear Joycester has been asking me to make.  It came out Grrrrreat, IMHO!

Running with the Big Dogs!

I was pinching myself (to see if I was dreaming) as Joyce and I arrived at remarkable Rosenbaum Contemporary in Boca Raton, FL.  I feel honored to be included in this outstanding gallery.  We were delivering 5 of my sculptures to add to their museum quality artworks.  I believe Captured Flight compliments Hanneke Beaumont's sculpture; wouldn't you agree?

A smooth landing on Cape Cod for Standing Flight

Just received this photo of my sculpture Standing Flight taken in its new home on Cape Cod.  This gift was given by a discernible art aficionado.

A New Hospital Installation

Art consultant, Leslie Watkins of Art Partnership,  just sent a photo of the piece I created for the new Kennedy Health System in New Jersey.  This is the first time I have used 3 sawblades in one sculpture.

A-MAZ-ING

I wanted to show you how the sawblades look before they are cut apart.

This pair will be part of a sculpture which will be installed in New Jersey later this winter.

My Process:

First I used soapstone which can be easily erased while I am creating the desired look.  Then I outline the design with a magic marker for steel which allow me to see the image as I cut it out with my plasma cutter.

When I look at them, it still amazes me how they stay together after cutting!

New Installation brings Happiness

Both the customer and The Alchemist were smiling once the sculpture was installed in their entryway. 

This is the first residential installation of a 47" Captured Flight.  Previously, one was purchased by Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital and two others are currently in sculpture exhibits; one in Boston and the other in Pennsylvania

Wind Through The Trees

The Jenkins Arborteum and Gardens in Devon, PA threw a beautiful open house for over 350 guests. My sculpture "Captured Flight" was sited perfectly for this exhibition which will run through June, 2011. Our hosts, Marilyn Sifford and Bob Butera made our stay in the "City of Brotherly Love" very enjoyable. On Sunday we joined them at the Barnes Museum to view the most amazing collection of Impressionist art we've ever seen.

"Neighbors" made friends in Lenoir, NC

...My new sculpture "Neighbors" was well received at the 25th Sculpture Celebration which opened on 9/11 in Lenoir. I was gratified by the wonderful comments and the connection I felt with those attending this exhibit. This is a maquette (sculptor’s small preliminary model) for a 20’ tall sculpture and the first in a series I am creating which deals with “Man’s Inhumanity to Man." I used 1/4" stainless for the Star of David, brass for the Crescent Moon and copper for the Cross. My goal is to find a home for the full sized sculpture where it can be viewed by a diverse population.

A Leaf Grows in Asheville

The leaf I created for the Handmade Design Expo at the NC Arboretum was purchased by an art collector in Asheville.

Banned in Boston??? NOT

Even though the weather was a typical Spring day in Boston, it didn't "rain on my parade". The location of my sculptures was perfecto! We had a nice turnout of family, friends, and art lovers for the opening event of the Boston HarborArts International Exhibit.

The Public Has a Right to Know

Karen Elliot and her "Southern Accents" crew did a wonderful job creating

this segment

which is now airing on PBS affiliates not only in this region, but as far as Montana in the West and PA in the East. In a short period of time, they included a lot of information (about ME, ME, ME - The Alchemist)

as well as many photos of my sculptures.
